THE BISON
Physical description
The bison is a large ruminant bovine. Its
length is between 2 and 3.5 meters. Both males and females have lateral horns
measuring more than 40 cm. In addition, it can measure from 1.50 to 2 meters in
height at the withers. The female bison weighs between 500 and 600 kg and the
male between 800 and 1000 kg.
The animal is dressed in a dark brown coat
and a lighter brown coat. Note that there are bison quite different from other
species, such as white bison.
The bison also has a lump, consisting of
muscles and fatty tissue.
Since the end of the 19th century, the
bison is a threatened species because of its cloak which constitutes an object
of covetousness. This frenzied hunt has the effect of making the species rare,
so that today the vast majority of bison are found in North America in the
Midwest.
His place of life
Two species of bison are found either in
North America or in Europe. Regarding the first species of buffalo, it is most
often found in the plains while the second lives in forests.

The buffalo is an herbivore that feeds

His reproduction

A bison lives on average 18 to 22 years in
the wild, and 25 to 30 years in captivity.

buffalo cry is mellow.

In winter, the buffalo wears a long coat
that distinguishes it from other breeds of cattle.
Although not carnivorous, the buffalo can
attack men if it feels threatened or provoked: it then charges at more than 50
km / h. He can also jump high enough.
The buffalo sharpens its horns on trees
during the breeding season.
