We use the present perfect continues tense to talk about:

1.     to talk about an activity which continues over a length of time:

1)      I ………….. a book about the history of law-making.

                ( has explained , has been explaining , have been explaining)

2.                to stress the length of time an activity has taken:

1)      She………….to be a doctor for six years.

3.                to talk about an activity which may not be completed:

4.                to talk about an activity which is repeated over a period of time:

1.     actions that started and finished in the past :
 We usually use a key word such as  just , already ,  yet , so far , up to now , recently , lately , at last , In my life , in his life ………..

( didn't read, haven't read, hasn't read)

2.     a past experience or achievement with a definite result in the present:
