Taha Hussein, the famous Egyptian writer was born in “Al-Kilo” village, Minia province in 1889. He told us a lot about his biography in his book “The Steam of Days” appeared in 1929. He lost his sight when he was a baby, but he had a good family which helped him. His parents and his twelve brothers and sisters treated him in a special way and tried to make the life easy for him. At first he was puzzled by that. He later found out that his brothers and sisters could do and describe things that he could not. This made him angry and jealous, and then his anger turned into a deep sadness. He showed himself to be a person with a strong will who could overcome his blindness. He decided to lead an active and useful life. He was curious for knowledge. He had a creative imagination and talent for learning. He went to the local school “Al-Kutab” in his village and before he was seven, he could recite the Holly Quran. In 1902 he travelled to Cairo and studied at “Al-Azhar”.
