Al Mahaba Festival is a cultural and sports tourist festival held in the city of Latakia on the Mediterranean Sea in Syria during the period from 2 to 12 August annually and is also called the Basil Festival.

The Festival of Love is characterized by various events including exhibitions of plastic arts, antique exhibitions, poetry evenings, cultural symposia, art concerts, competitions and sports, such as swimming, football, horse racing and a number of different events and activities.

The days and nights of the festival of love are characterized by its daily artistic performances of the greatest artists, with the participation of a group of singers and singers from the Syrians and Arabs, and the media, literature, poetry and plastic arts.

The city of Lattakia is crowded with tourists and tourists during the period. Visitors from Syria and abroad come to visit the festival. The festival is held in the summer and the city is full of tourists who visit the seaside resorts on the Mediterranean coast and the mountain resorts scattered on the peaks of the Syrian coastal mountains.

The reason for the establishment of the festival and its inception

In 1987, the Mediterranean Games were held in 1987, hosted by Lattakia. Since 1988, this festival has been held in honor of the same date every year. However, in 2012, events were limited to sports events and parachuting in view of the situation in Syria.
