Dohuk, Duhok or Dahûk Or Nohadra is an Iraqi city in the Kurdistan Autonomous Region. It is the capital of the province of Dahûk. This city was mostly Christian at the end of the 19th century, before the Assyrian Genocide in 1915 perpetrated by the Ottomans and Kurds this city is still called Nohadra, but during their occupation on the land of the Assyrians, the Kurds have renamed the city " Duhok "although the Assyrians still living in this city still call nohadra.

The province of Dahûk1 is one of the 18 provinces of Iraq, part of the Kurdistan Autonomous Region.

Before 1976, the province was part of the province of Nineveh.

History

During the Gulf War in 1991, the city of Dahûk was emptied of its population by the armies of Saddam Hussein.

Geography

The population of the province is of Kurdish ethnicity and practices the Kurdish language, there is a Syriac minority. The province is part of the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan.
