The city of Abha, the center of the Emirate of Asir in
Saudi Arabia, is located on a circle (18) degrees and (14) minutes and
longitude (42) degrees and (30) minutes. It is strategically located at the
junction of regional roads leading to Taif, Najran, Jizan and Riyadh, as well
as its administrative, educational and tourist center for the Asir region.
Geography of the region Asir region is located in the southwestern part of the
Kingdom and is estimated to be about 80,000 square kilometers (3.7%) of the total
area of the Kingdom. It extends from the Jizan region to the
Red Sea coast from the western south to the Yemen border in the south-east and
the Wadi border Al-Dumawar (Riyadh region) in the north to Rania, located
within the Makkah area to the Al-Baha area and the Makkah area in the coastal
plain of Qunfudah. The
area is also bordered by the Najran region to the east and the Qunfudah area
140 km from the Red Sea coast. The city of Abha, the center of the
Principality, is located on a circle of (18) degrees and (14) minutes and
longitude (42) degrees and (30) minutes. It is strategically located at the
junction of regional roads leading to Taif, Najran, Jizan and Riyadh, as well
as its administrative, educational and tourist center for the Asir region. Asir
region can be divided geographically into three main units, each with its
distinctive characteristics, namely the Sarwat Mountains, the Eastern Plateau,
and Tihama Asir. Climate Summer rains account for the largest annual rainfall
in mountain areas. Asir is the richest country in the rain, where large amounts
of seasonal monsoon rains occur. The rainfall decreases as we head north,
usually ending at Wadi Hili. Most of these rains fall in the mountains of
Al-Sarra on the steep western façade and then lower inside. The average
temperature in Abha (20-25 ° C) in September, (18 ° C) in October and up to (15
° C) in the rest of the months. The rains in Tihama are irregular and few
except for Jazan, and rain often falls in the evening. The day begins with a
bright sun and a clear air until the afternoon, where the clouds gather and the
rain sometimes rains, and sometimes sometimes after sunset, the cloud clouds
and the sky rises again. Summer rains are the largest part of the total annual
rainfall, especially in mountainous areas, which are directly exposed to the
southern and western monsoons. There is a phenomenon that occurs in Asir in
winter. It is the rise of the fog from the Tihama valleys and is collected in
the high mountains. The fog may continue for several consecutive days without
interruption. Archaeological areas Asir was associated with pre-Islamic
civilizations. It was also associated with the Islamic civilization since
ancient times. It was a difficult route between the Arabian Peninsula and the
country of Yemen. It crossed the commercial caravans penetrating the mountains
of Asir after leaving the desert road it was passing through. The pre-Islamic
civilizations that emerged in Yemen and the Hijaz, and was later associated
with the Islamic civilization in these areas. Many parts of Asir today have
many traces of inscriptions and engravings on the rocks, on the walls of the
caves and in the remains of some cities. The Sarawat Range: It covers large
parts of the Asir region and extends parallel to the Red Sea. It consists of
mostly granite and transverse volcanic rocks, ranging from 200 m to 300 m,
interspersed with some mountain valleys and rocky slopes. The eastern plateau:
Located in the region of Bisha and Thalit extends to the east and north of the
Asir mountain range, which is a flat plain ranging between (600 m) to (1000 m)
penetrates the surface volcanic peaks and the huge volcanic eruption and huge
granite and transformed rocks The surface of the crumbled rock crumbs Of the
mountains .. A desert area is almost closed by isolated hill chains, which are
generally dry because of the small deposits. Tihama Asir extends from the
western slopes of the Sarawat mountain range no more than 150 km and the
coastal plain rises. (Tihama Aseer) from the sea surface at a rate ranging from
(100 m) to (150 m) and a number of grooves and valleys carrying rainwater from
the tops of the western slopes of the Sarawat mountain range, flowing into the
Red Sea.
