ANTELOPE



Physical description
Antelopes are ruminant mammals classified as cattle. The term antelope includes about twenty species. The antelopes are equipped with very agile fine legs that allow them to move at a very high speed. Moreover, these very athletic animals have the ability to run up to 130 km / h and to jump up to 4 meters in height. Their weight varies according to the species, between 5kg and 800kg.

Antelopes usually have fawn-colored fur. However, there is some clarity in the belly. Males have horns shaped like spirals. Some females also have horns but finer.

Another group of antelopes commonly referred to as Tregelaphiné is also described, two of which come from Asia and ten from Africa. The latter have straight horns, quite short.

His place of life
Antelopes live in the steppes of Africa, Asia and even North America. That said, we can also find antelopes in forests and deserts according to their species. The antelopes that we encounter in Africa include gazelles and kudu.

His diet
The antelope is a herbivore feeding on leaves, grasses, tubers, roots and fruits.

His reproduction
Antelopes have two distinct breeding periods: March-April and August-September. The female can give birth to 2 antelope babies. For this, the gestation period can be up to 6 months.

His life expectancy
Antelopes have different lifetimes depending on the region where the animal is. A saiga antelope, for example, has a life expectancy of between 9 and 12 years.

His shout
This mammal ruminant emits sounds that are near to whistles almost inaudible.

Particular signs
It is a species that usually prefers loneliness to group life.
In order to mark their territory, these intrepid cattle are engaged in very violent fighting.
