For lovers of hiking,
the Sahara is in Algeria its finery, thanks to the harsh beauty of Tassilis
(plateaus) and the majesty of the peaks of the Hoggar. For those who do not
like the desert, the north of Algeria opens again: whether Algiers "the
White", the Kabylie or the Roman sites of Tipaza, Djemila or Timgad, the
choice is wide and often amazing.

Climate
The country is roughly
divided into three climatic zones: the coast, in the north, with a
Mediterranean climate; mountains (north-west and south-east), where it snows
and freezes winter, while summer is very hot; finally the desert, which
represents most of the territory of Algeria, where heat is tolerable in the
high region (tempered by altitude), but overwhelming in the lowest regions.
Geography
Algeria is the largest
country in the Maghreb. Its territory sinks deep south in the Sahara Desert,
which is more than two-thirds and where extensive deposits of oil and natural
gas. The population, very young, is concentrated in the north, on the coast
with the Mediterranean climate and in the mountains of medium altitude, as
Aurès or Kabylie.

TYPES OF LANDSCAPE
If it is true that the desert covers most of the
territory of Algeria, one can find there also other types of landscapes: on the
coast, in the north, succession of rocky creeks and long white beaches, in the
mountains of Kabylie, with slopes covered with forests and where it snows
easily in winter, and, finally, in the many oases, with their ksars with
sparkling walls, their palm groves and their extraordinary gardens.
