THE MECCA OR MEDINE, WHERE TO START?
LOGISTICS /
mecque-medine-début-omra-hajj You have probably already noticed that some pilgrims begin their journey from Umrah by going first to Medina, others go directly to Mecca and end up in Medina.

Finally, I say "some pilgrims" when you go in custom mode, if you go in a group, it is the travel agencies that make this choice there very often for economic reasons and / or availability of flights to destination of Medina.

WHAT IS BETTER, STARTING BY MEDINE OR BY MAKKAH?

Both have advantages and disadvantages, explanation:

START WITH MECCA

The first objective of a trip from Umrah is to do one right from this point of view; it may be interesting to consider starting with Mecca. Thus, from the first day you will have completed your Umrah and can subsequently enjoy your stay without the pressure of "I have not yet done my Umrah".

The advantage is also that after having lived in the Mecca din for a few days, we arrive in Medina and enjoy the serenity and the peace that reign there. We end up on this beautiful appreciation and we go home soothed 🙂

That being said, I see two major drawbacks:

1. When we go to Umrah (for the Hajj it's even worse), the gap between our carefree life, our life as Westerners and the spiritual demand that this journey requires is so great that we risk of missing his meeting with Mecca. In short, passing fashion posters and women's perfumes from Charles De Gaule airport to the state of sacralisation (ihram) admit that there is a world 🙂

Not to mention all the carefree atmosphere that there are on board flights to Jeddah (since filled with non-Muslim expatriates and non-pilgrims), add to that the monstrosities projected in the screens (films of action US, alienating cartoons ...) then to put in state of ihram in these conditions, it is really hot from the spiritual point of view.

2. This is one of the consequences of the previous point. To put yourself in a state of sacralisation on the plane and to start Talbiya in the conditions we know is not very good.

Especially since the Talbiya only lasts about ten minutes before the landing and that immediately after we are in the airport formalities (luggage, passports, transport ...) all this makes that one can not be well invested in his Talbiya, one can even come to forget that one is in a state of ihram so the atmosphere is under the sign of carelessness.

START WITH MEDINE

Take the advantages and disadvantages of starting with Mecca, reverse them and you have about those starting from Medina 🙂

Medina serves us as spiritual SAS, the few days spent at the prophet-salat-nabi prophets prepares us spiritually to enter the state of ihram. These few days erase the effects of our western environment (if we played the game), the serenity that reigns soothes us, puts us in condition and propels us into our faith, and it's all good as preparation for Umrah.

And sincerely, one of the great advantages of starting in Medina is to go to Umrah almost in the same conditions as the prophet-salat-nabi prophet, passing through the same Miqat (the place from which one enters state of ihram) than him.

The advantages to go through the terrestrial Miqat (that of Dhoul Houlayfa as regards the people who pass through Medina) are:

To concretize the notion of entry into the state of Ihram, if it is obvious for us adults - the children are not yet in the abstract thought, they want concrete, and the concrete thing here is to be physically at the Miqat, there enter with his clothes and come out with towels lol
To fulfill the Sunna in its totality, namely to do the ghousl (great ablutions) and to pray 2 units of prayer to the Miqat. But above all, to find oneself where the prophet prophet -salatnabi and the companions found themselves when they left for the Hajj is simply fabulous.

So, unless forced to do so by the travel agency, my choice goes definitely to the Medina option first. And you what do you think
