THE FALCON
Physical description
Falcons are birds of prey of the family Falconidae. There are several species, the most common of which are kestrels and peregrine falcons. The latter has a dark gray plumage on the back, beige on the belly and white on the cheeks. Its legs are yellow, the beak and the eyes are black. It measures 38 to 54 cm, for a weight varying between 600 and 1300 g, the female being visibly more corpulent than the male.
His place of life
Falcons can be found on all continents, except in the polar regions. They do not build nests but make their homes in cliffs, or, more rarely, trees or buildings. They live as a couple and each family lives quite far from others. In temperate climates, they move little; but in colder areas like northern Europe and America, people migrate south when winter comes.
His diet
The hawk is carnivorous. Some species feed only on birds, while others are also interested in small terrestrial animals such as frogs, snakes and lizards.
His reproduction
The breeding season varies according to species and regions. Seduction techniques also depend on falcon species. To seduce the female, the peregrine falcon makes its love parade by performing all kinds of aerial tricks. The kestrel, it offers a prey to the female.

The female makes a laying per year, from 3 to 6 eggs. These are brooded for about a month, mainly by the female, and to a lesser extent by the male. The falcons are able to fly after about forty days. Before becoming independent, they stay with their parents for several weeks, a time spent learning to hunt.
His life expectancy
In the wild, the hawk can live 13 years on average. But in captivity, he can live longer, up to 25 years.
The cry of the falcon
His most common cry is pretty piercing. In case of danger, he gives a quick, loud cry to intimidate the intruder. It is said that the Hawk eight or claims to talk about the sound it emits.
Particular signs
Peregrine falcons are the fastest birds in the world. Indeed, they are able to melt on their prey at a speed of over 300 km / h. They are also used for falconry, a hunting technique that involves capturing small game using an erect bird. This practice, which began in Asia, has spread to Africa, America and Europe, so that there are currently several falconry associations.
