MOHAMED ABOUTRIKA: A
"LEGEND" OF EGYPTIAN FOOTBALL -
Didier Drogba said of him in
2008 that he is a legend. Well yes ! Mohamed Abo Trika is considered as such in
his country, Egypt. Star of Al-Ahly, his club, and emblematic player of the
Pharaohs, the Egyptian midfielder is part of the squad who faces Ghana in a few
hours in Kumassi as part of the knock-out dates of the 2014 World Cup.
Biography a talented player, but who chose to evolve only on the African continent.
Mohamed Aboutrika was born on
November 7, 1978 in Giza, a suburb of Cairo, the Egyptian capital. He started
playing football very early. At 12, he already joined the training center of
Tersana Sporting Club, an Egyptian football club based in Giza. He will be
trained before being called to the first team.
With Tersana SC, Aboutrika
participated in many matches and scored 93 goals in 169 games. But fate not
having bound him only to his training club, he leaves Tersana and signs at the
beginning of the season 2003-2004 at the emblematic club of Cairo, El-Ahly.
Career at Al-Ahly and Egyptian
selection
Mohamed Aboutrika will quickly
become a key element in the squad of the emblematic club of the capital. He had
all the talent he needed for that. Aboutrika will win many trophies with his
team both nationally and continentally: Championships, Cups and Super Cup of
Egypt and CAF Champions Leagues. In 2006, he offered the Champions league
Africa to his club by finishing top scorer in the competition and scoring the
decisive goal in the 92nd minute in the final return against CS Sfaxien.
Aboutrika will also put his
talent at the service of the selection of his country. He scored the winning
goal in the 2006 CAN final against Didier Drogba of Cote d'Ivoire. AEgypt's
Mohammed Abu Trika (R) advanced competition that took place in his country. He
repeated the same feat two years later in Ghana by scoring, in the middle of
the game, the goal of the victory against Cameroon in the CAN 2008 final.
In February 2012, Mohamed
Aboutrika announced his retirement following the events in Port Said where many
supporters of Al-Ahly were killed. But he will reconsider his decision.
The Egyptian midfielder has
never played outside the African continent. But the immensity of his talent has
earned him many honors. In 2006, he was nominated for the Best African Player
Award. He is second in 2008. He is also voted the best African player on the
continent in 2008 and 2012.
