Constantine, originally ...

The foundation of the city dates back to -202 BC JC., Formerly Constantine was an important Phoenician city called Cirta, it became the capital of the Kingdom of Numidia during the reign of Massinissa who was at the time the ally of Rome.

In the year 301 AD JC, Cirta was completely destroyed during the war between the Roman emperor Maxence and the Roman governor Domitius Alexander. A few years later the Roman Emperor Constantine I rebuilt the city and gave it the name it has been wearing for 17 centuries. Constantine was conquered during the Arab invasion in the 7th century, the Arabs gave it the name of Qusantina.

On October 13, 1837, after a fierce fight against the French occupation, Constantine fell and became part of French Algeria. During the Second World War, Constantine is used as an operational base by the Allied forces.
