The origin of his nickname

Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) has a great affection for animals, and especially for kittens: He constantly keeps one in his company; this explains his nickname (which literally means "the father of kittens"), which was given to him by the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم).

His conversion

Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) converted to Islam in the year of Khaybar (7 am) while he belonged to the chief of the Daws tribe; At-Tufayl. This tribe lived in the Tihamah region that stretched along the Red Sea in southern Saudi Arabia.
When At-Tufayl returned to his village after his meeting with the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) and his conversion to Islam, at the very beginning of the mission,
Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) was one of the first to answer his call, unlike other members of the tribe who persisted long in their old beliefs.
He often praised Allah for his good fortune and said: "Praise be to Allah who guided Abu Hurayrah to Islam, glory to Allah who taught Abu Hurayrah the Quran." Praise be to Allah who granted Abu Hurayra the company of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. "

His first meeting with the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم)

Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) accompanied At-Tufayl when he returned to Mecca. There was the privilege and honor of meeting the noble Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) who asked him:
- "What is your name ?
"Abdu Chams- servant of the sun," he replied.
- Replace him with Abdur-Rahman - servant of the All-Merciful, says the Prophet.
"So it will be Abdur-Rahman, O Messenger of Allah," he agreed.
He nevertheless continued to be known as Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه), because as the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) he was fond of cats and since childhood, he has always had a cat to play. Abu Hurayrah stayed in Tihamah for several years before leaving for Medina in Hegira 7 with the other members of his tribe.

The invocation of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) in his favor concerning science

Zayd Ibn Thabit (رضي الله عنه), the notable companion of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) reported: "We were Abu Hurayra, a friend and I praying to Allah Almighty and performing the dhikr in the Masjid, when the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و سلم) came in. He joined us.

We shut up and he said, "Continue what you were doing". Then my friend and I made an invocation to Allah and the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) to say amin to our duas. It was then the turn of Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه). He made the following supplication: "O Lord, I ask you what my two companions have asked of you and I ask you to know it which will not be forgotten".
The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) says amin. Then we repeated: "And we ask Allah to know that will not be forgotten."
The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) replied, "The young Dawsi asked this before you."

The conversion of her mother and her behavior with her

One day, while inviting him to believe in Allah alone and to follow His Prophet, she said things about the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) that greatly saddened Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه). His eyes full of tears, he went to the holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) who asked him:
"What makes you cry, O Abu Hurayra?
- I have not stopped calling my mother to Islam but she always pushes me away. Today, I once again invited her to Islam and I heard her say words that I do not like. Please, implore Allah the Almighty to incline the heart of Abu Hurayrah's mother to Islam ".
The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said:
"O Allah, guide the mother of Abu Hurairah".
Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) said, "I went home and found the door shut, I heard the water splashing in. When I tried to enter, my mother told me to stay where I was. 'was.

Once dressed, she let me into the room and there she said, "I testify that there is no god but Allah and I testify that Muhammad is his servant and messenger."
I went back to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم), crying with joy when the previous hour I cried with sadness. "I have good news, O Messenger of Allah, Allah answered your prayer and guided Abu Hurayrah's mother to Islam".
Then he added, "O Messenger of Allah, ask Allah to make sure that I and my mother are beloved by believers and believers". The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) then addresses Allah in these words:
"O Allah, make this humble servant that you have there, as well as his mother, loved by every believer and believer."

All his life during Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) behaved with kindness and courtesy towards his mother. Each time he went out, he stopped at the threshold of his room to say to him: "peace be upon you mother as well as the clemency and the divine blessing".
She answered by: "and on you be peace, my son, as well as clemency and the divine blessing".
Often, he added, "May Allah be merciful to you just as you treated me as a child."
She replied, "May Allah be merciful to you as you have delivered me from error when I was old." Abu Hurayra always encouraged gentle and kind behavior towards parents.
One day he saw two men, one older than the other walking together. He asked the youngest, "Who is this man for you?"
"My father," he replied.
"Do not call him by his name, do not walk in front of him and do not sit down before him," said Abu Hurayra.

The ahâdîths he reports from the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم)

During the four years he spent in the company of the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم), Abu Hurairah succeeded, thanks to his great memory, in memorizing the jewels of wisdom emanating from the mouth of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) . Conscious of his gift, he decided to use it in the service of Islam.

This faculty, Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) will use it to serve the propagation of prophetic teachings. Thus, as he does not have a professional activity - he says it himself, he has no land to cultivate (unlike his Ansar brothers),
nor trade to maintain (unlike his brothers Mouhajirin) - he takes advantage of his availability to stay constantly in the company of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم), to listen and, especially, to remember his slightest remarks.
He had free time because unlike other Muhajirin (Emigrants), he was not busy in the markets and unlike the Ansar, he had no land to cultivate. He preferred to accompany the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) in his travels and expeditions. Impressed by his memorization of hadiths, some companions often asked him about the period and the context of a hadith.
With companions such as Abdullah son of OMAR, Anas son of Malik, the Mother of Believers Aisha, Jabir Ibn Abdullah and Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri, he is one of the main transmitters of Hadith. They transmitted more than a thousand words of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم).
It is reported that he, his wife and daughter have a habit of taking turns all night - each occupying one-third of it - to pray and perform devotional acts. Thus, it does not happen for a moment without there being someone who does salat, dhikr or recitation of the Qur'an every night in the house of Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه).
