What are the different rights of citizens?

What is freedom of opinion? | Does everyone's religion concern the state? | Can we move freely? | Does every citizen have the right to respect for his private life? | What about property and "safety?" | What is the right to vote? | Can all citizens be elected? | Can any citizen contribute to the development of the law? | Are all citizens entitled to an education? | Is everyone entitled to social protection? | Is there a right to work? |

Freedom of opinion has been solemnly affirmed since the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen of August 26, 1789. It means that every person is free to think as he sees fit, to assert opinions contrary to that of the majority, to express them. The Declaration specifies that this freedom of opinion extends to religious freedom, each being free to adopt the religion of his choice or to adopt none. This solemn affirmation did not prevent attacks on this freedom (eg under the Restoration or the Vichy regime).

In order to be effective, freedom of opinion must be accompanied by respect for other freedoms:

freedom of expression: allows everyone to freely express their ideas by any means they deem appropriate (eg book, film). It therefore implies freedom of the press, freedom of audiovisual communication and freedom of expression on the Internet. However, this freedom also implies respect for others. Thus, defamatory, racist, incitement to racial hatred or murder is punishable by law. It has limits to protect the rights of third parties (respect for privacy, the right to image, copyright);
freedom of association: solemnly affirmed in France by the law of 1 July 1901, it allows people sharing the same opinions to associate within the same organization (a political party, for example);
freedom of assembly: allows several people to come together to share ideas or support a cause;
freedom of demonstration: allows people supporting a cause or opinion to express it in the street. This freedom is necessarily accompanied by limits in order to protect public order.
