A popular tourist destination, Louisiana charms visitors with its cosmopolitan character and multiple influences. Considered as "French America", Louisiana is also marked by Spanish and Creole culture. Its humid climate has allowed the development of a variety of fauna and flora, especially in the "bayou", the marshes that adjoin New Orleans. Cradle of jazz, it has long been the emblem of a state whose history is linked to its cultural life and its plantations. Disfigured by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005, New Orleans is rebuilt and attempts to recreate the scent of nostalgia born of its foundation and settlement by the French in the early eighteenth century.

Climate

Louisiana enjoys a hot and humid climate in summer. Winter is mild and dry. Cyclones can sometimes occur, especially in early fall, because of the proximity of the Gulf of Mexico. Precipitation is very important and evenly distributed throughout the year.

Geography

Located in the southern United States, Louisiana is bordered on the west by Texas, on the north by Arkansas and on the east by Mississippi. It opens to the south on the Gulf of Mexico.

TYPES OF LANDSCAPE

The plantations, large houses with porticoes and columns surrounded by fields of cotton or sugar cane worked by slaves in the eighteenth century, symbolize the turbulent history of New Orleans. The best known are Vacherie, Oak Alley, flanked by two magnificent rows of oaks, and the elegant Laura Plantation. In Cheyneville, not far from Alexandria, one discovers Loyd Hall Plantation. As for the Mississippi, today it hides its commercial glory of past centuries under the bright red paddles of paddle boats, cherished by tourists during mini cruises with jazz accents. The Cajun country, located in the heart of the bayous, is famous for its lakes and swamps.
