The marine animal of the
order of mammals
A marine mammal is naturally
an animal that lives mainly in water. It's not a fish because mammals do not
have gills and breathe with the lungs, as dolphins and whales do. They must
therefore constantly go to the surface to take a breath of air.
Like terrestrial animals,
marine mammals can be carnivorous or herbivorous depending on their feeding
habits. The killer whale is carnivorous because it eats other aquatic animals
such as seals, and the herbivore will usually eat seaweed. Some may have an aquatic
and terrestrial life such as walrus that will heat up in the sun when it is
resting. Some are often unskillful in their movements when they are on land,
such as sea lions, which have short legs better adapted for swimming.
It is common that these
animals have an ability to stay under water for a long time, apnea, without
having to go back up to breathe. This is very often the case with dolphins,
killer whales, and other predators who have to prey on their prey.

Many marine animals, have a
hole that is used for breathing placed on the top of the head, as for whales.
They only have to let out the top of the head slightly to quickly breathe out
and take a breath to plunge once full of air redone.
There are freshwater mammals
and some live only in salt water. Their metabolism often prevents them from
changing environments, and they can not survive in water of the opposite kind
to their evolution. Each species has adapted to the water of its environment
and changing the type of water is dramatic for their health, which can kill
them if it does not return hastily. Others can go from salt water to fresh
water without really being affected.
To move, some have fins,
which resemble those of the fish, but many have webbed feet that help them to
swim. Like the other mammals, many still wear hair, but in much less quantity,
so as not to interfere with their swimming.
The most defining character
is naturally that they are viviparous animals, which will feed their young with
the help of teats, allowing them to give the breast milk that the offspring
need to develop. This is why marine mammals will stay with their mothers until
they are old enough to eat on their own.
