Anserines are large birds

The subfamily Anserines (Anserinae) includes large birds of the family Anatidae, which are of the order Anseriformes. There are different species of geese and swans. They are long-necked waterfowl birds that spend a lot of time on streams.

They can be seen everywhere on the globe, and many are migratory birds that will enjoy the warm weather of the temperate regions to nest, for abundant food. Once the nesting is over, they will then make the migration back to the south when autumn arrives.

Anserinated birds are usually herbivorous animals that feed on grains, grass and aquatic plants. They spend a lot of their time in the fields, or on the water, looking for food.

They have a long neck that allows them to pick plants at the bottom of shallow streams. The legs are webbed to help them move on the water. Their beaks are often adapted to seize and cut the plants efficiently. In some geese, it can be seen that the beak has a toothed ridge to slice the roots and stems of tougher plants.

They are fairly social birds that form colonies during nesting. The young can not reproduce before 2-3 years, and usually stay with the parents until the nesting period following their birth. Couples are generally durable for life, unless they die.

The different species of Anserines can be identified by their color, patterns, size, and other physical characteristics.
