Climate
India's climate varies,
from the eternal snows of the Himalayas to the tropical temperatures of the
coast, to the continental influences of the inland, not to mention the many
regional and seasonal fluctuations. In general, it is better to go there after
the southwest monsoon.
The period from Oct. in
March - the coolest on the Indian Peninsula - is also the most enjoyable. In
winter, blue skies and bright sunshine predominate in most areas. Some areas in
the south and east experience brief periods of rain from the northeast monsoon,
while snow and ice often block access to the far north.
In the summer of apr. By June, most of the country has
a warm, dry, wetter climate on the coast. Kashmir and climatic resorts in
Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh are beautiful at this time of the year. The
southwestern monsoon, which settles on the west coast towards the end of May,
brings a little respite after the heat; it crosses the country from June to
July, bringing in its wake variable rainfall, before moving away at the end of
seven. At that time, the Northeast of India - one of the wettest regions of the
world - record heavy showers.
Accommodation
Excerpt from Travel
Guide Library India
India offers a huge
range of accommodation, from the most rudimentary gourbis to the opulent
palaces of the ancient Maharajas. Small family guest houses and budget hotels aimed
at a foreign clientele generally surprise by their level of cleanliness and
comfort, considering the rates charged. Away from the tourist centers, you will
find a myriad of intermediate hotels suitable to satisfy a business clientele -
if they offer a level of comfort and good hygiene, they often lack character.
National tourism companies also run mid-range establishments, which are known
as tourist bungalows.
A new type of
accommodation is gaining momentum, aimed at the foreign traveler who has become
more demanding with age, but who does not wish to stay in 5-star hotels, or to
the Indian tourist belonging to the middle classes. But note that a mid-range
establishment does not guarantee you a higher standard than its low-priced
competitor - and beware of new hotels that take the name of a local
institution.
In the high-end domain,
India still surprises by the stratospheric level of its palaces, housed in
ancient palaces of Maharajas - like the famous Taj Lake Palace of Udaipur - or
venerable mastodons of the colonial era as the Mumbai Taj. You will have to pay
several hundred dollars to spend one night in one of these prestigious
establishments. The two main chains, Taj and Oberoi, have dozens of these
jewels all over the country. But character and history are not necessarily
synonymous with unaffordable luxury, and there are countless less ruinous
options, especially in Rajasthan, from the old haveli to the rustic fort to the
old hunting lodge - an unforgettable atmosphere. relatively low rates at the rendezvous.
When you arrive, ask to see 2 or 3 bedrooms before you
commit. Check that light, hot water, fans, and air conditioning are working.
Also try to negotiate a discount, you never know.
