Physical and Sports Education
Physical education and sport is a compulsory subject of education.

its presence in the School corresponds to the variability of its appellations,
each corresponding to a stage in its history: gymnastics, physical education,

The teaching subject of the EP is not defined by reference to a

always easy to answer this question, because this object of teaching can
receive different definitions according to the times: for some it is the body,
for others, the movement or the motor behaviors, more recently it is the sport
or the word being too restrictive or too connoted, the physical activities and
sports (APS). Ultimately, it does not matter: it is the aims of physical education
that determine its utility. Consequently, whatever its teaching object, it has
never been more than a means of attaining them. And these ends are presented as
a waiting system (an educational challenge) that is directly dependent on the
state of development of a society, the military, health, economic, political
and social context of a particular era.
Never before has a discipline of teaching been the target of so
much controversy: we do not discuss ad infinitum about the usefulness of
"knowing how to read, write and count". One does not gloss over the
expected effects of teaching history, French, mathematics or natural sciences.
If a teaching discipline is included in school curricula, it is because its
usefulness is not disputed. It is only a question of number of hours, which
varies according to the level or the path of schooling. In Physical and Sports
Education, there is nothing like this: his schedule is generally ensured
throughout schooling (which does not mean that it is sufficient or that it meets
the requirements of the official texts ...) and yet nobody is really agree to
define its purpose of teaching.
The specialists say that since 1967, physical education has for
object the teaching the physical and sports activities ... without being confused
with her. Because the School can not reproduce in its walls, approaches or
pedagogical techniques that do not respond strictly to its expectations and
which, moreover, are implemented by other educational institutions. In other

representing different teaching disciplines as well as future "school

debate too often opaque.
Today, whether we like it or not, physical education IS sports.
When his teachers do a "class," they schedule a cycle of basketball,
swimming or gymnastics. Moreover, they have no choice: they have (usually)
standardized facilities that do not allow them to do anything else! And if they
could, they would, usually with great enthusiasm, rock climbing, rollerblading,
mountain biking, palm swimming or diving, unless it was paragliding or surfing.
