Peace in the world - The meaning
of international peace
Does peace exist in the world?
That's far from being the case. Last year, there were more than 30 wars and
civil wars, most of the time with a large number of innocent deaths. Terrorist
groups are rife. Many people are afraid in North Africa or the Middle East,
fleeing atrocities, in the face of death, and abandon their homeland. Refugee
flows have taken on huge proportions.
Peace today
One of the most important
documents in the history of humanity is the United Nations Charter. His first
article, already, cites the maintenance of international peace as the most
important goal of the United Nations. In the past, peace was defined as the
absence of war; Today, we hear more under this term: respect for human rights,
conflict prevention, disarmament, peace education and post-conflict monitoring on
a human scale. The United Nations has published good materials for this
purpose. The current understanding of peace has evolved - the list of wars and
civil wars too.
Throughout their history, the
United Nations has also created several institutions, the goal of which must be
to maintain peace in the world: notably the United Nations Security Council or
UNESCO, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the United
Nations Human Rights Council and the International Criminal Court. However, real
peace is slow to take hold.
