The walls of Al-Musamak Palace in the Saudi capital Riyadh tell the story of the founding of the country and its unification by King Abdulaziz Al-Saud. The palace was associated with the restoration of Riyadh more than a century ago.
The founder of the palace did not pay tribute to the king. It dates back to the reign of Imam Abdullah bin Faisal bin Turki bin Saud, in 1865, according to historical sources, and was created from "mud milk" within a large palace in the heart of Riyadh. The fortress was part of the Palace of Musmak, or what was called the Mosque, for the thickening of its walls and height. Historians also called it Al Hosn, Musmak, Musmak and it was the last name.
The fort witnessed the battle of "Fatah Riyadh", which was restored by the founding king of the Rashid family in 1902, and remains the effects of that battle is located on the palace, specifically one of the doors, when King Abdul Aziz tried to kill the son of Rashid Barmih dagger and made a mistake and hit the door.
King Abdul Aziz used the fort after Riyadh recovered an ammunition and weapons warehouse for two years, then turned into a prison, and finally a heritage landmark in the heart of Riyadh.
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz (then Prince of Riyadh), was re-established in 1980 and opened in 1995 and turned into a museum that tells the story of the founding and unification of the Kingdom.
The National Commission for Tourism and National Heritage has developed museum exhibits to showcase the story of the storming of Al-Masmak and the recovery of Riyadh. The museum houses photographs, maps, sculptures and coffins, displays old weapons and pieces of folklore, and ensures a visual and audiovisual theater.
Masmak Palace is one of the most important historical places for visitors and residents in a permanent form, for its prominent place in the history of the capital Riyadh in particular, and the Kingdom in general.
King Salman bin Abdul Aziz visited him last year and toured the museum. He said: "Read the history of your fathers, visit this museum, visit the shrine and landmarks of this ancient country and what we are now. We must thank God for what we are. Our youth know how this unity based on the Islamic faith was formed, an Arab Islamic unity and thank God.
The number of visitors to the palace has increased by one million over the past two decades, according to official statistics and news from the Tourism Authority. Every year, the museum has 10,000 visitors, residents, families and communities from all over the country and school students.

The last visitors were a delegation of members of the selection committees of the King Faisal International Prize for 2017 and their families, a few days ago. Visitors are informed of the palace's paintings, pictures, cabinets and video presentations, and listen to an explanation of King Abdulaziz's struggle.
