Flag of the United Arab Emirates

The flag of the United Arab Emirates was adopted on the second of December 1971, when the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God have mercy on him, raised it in his hands on the same day, declaring it the flag of the United Arab Emirates, as an independent and sovereign state.

The colors of the national flag include red, green, white and black, which symbolize Arab unity, and its length is half its width. It was designed at that time by a young Emirati, Abdullah Mohammed Al Maeenah, who subsequently served as Minister Plenipotentiary at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Abdullah Muhammad al-Maeenah had presented his drawing for the flag within six winning offers in a competition for flag design, in which hundreds of artists and painters participated, and the number of designs submitted reached one thousand and thirty artists, with an incentive of a cash prize of 4,000 dirhams for the winning design.

And the colors of the flag, red on the edge of the flag close to the mast, and green, black and white, which are distributed over the area of the flag, with its four rectangular sections, in which the designer relied on the colors of Arab unity that represent the two famous poetry houses of the poet Safi al-Din al-Hilli: “The white of our craftsmanship, the blackness of our facts. The green of our ranches, the red of our pasts. ”And the artifacts are the deeds of righteousness, well-known and good, the facts which are bloody battles, the squares which are the vast green lands, and the pasts which are reddish swords because they are stained with the blood of the enemies.

The national anthem of the United Arab Emirates

The national anthem of the UAE was adopted only as a melody without words in 1971. It remained so until 1986, when the Minister of Education asked the Emirati doctor and poet Arif Sheikh Abdullah Al-Hassan to write words for the tune of the national anthem within three days. The words were not officially adopted, but they became the words used by the people of the Emirates.

Song of the hymn:

Live my country, long live the union of our Emirates

I lived for the people

The religion of Islam is the gift of the Qur’an

I have protected you in the name of God, oh homeland

My country, my country

God protected you from the evils of time

We swore to build and work

We do we are saved, we do we are saved

No matter what we live we will be saved

Safety lasted and flag lived oh our Emirates

Symbol of Arabism

We all give you blood, we can tell you

We sacrifice lives for you, oh homeland
