Ahmed Hassan Zewail (February 26, 1946 in Damanhur (Beheira governorate) - August 2, 2016) is an Egyptian chemist. He received the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1999 "for his studies of the transition states of a chemical reaction using femtosecond spectroscopy".

 

Ahmed Zewail studied chemistry at the University of Alexandria where he obtained his bachelor's then a master's degree in spectroscopy, then pursued a doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania in 1973 before being a post-doctoral researcher at Berkeley and returning to CalTech in 1976. In 2010, Zewail was Professor of Chemistry and Physics at the California Institute of Technology (CalTech), and held the Linus Pauling Chair since 1990 where he directed the Laboratory for Molecular Sciences and the Multidisciplinary Research Center founded at CalTech by the National Science Foundation (NSF) around the study of fundamental molecular processes involved in complex molecular systems.

 

أحمد حسن زويل (26 فبراير 1946 في دمنهور (محافظة البحيرة) - 2 أغسطس 2016) كيميائي مصري. حصل على جائزة نوبل في الكيمياء عام 1999 "لدراساته للحالات الانتقالية لتفاعل كيميائي باستخدام التحليل الطيفي للفيمتو ثانية".

 

درس أحمد زويل الكيمياء في جامعة الإسكندرية حيث حصل على درجة البكالوريوس ثم الماجستير في التحليل الطيفي ، ثم تابع الدكتوراه في جامعة بنسلفانيا عام 1973 قبل أن يصبح باحثًا بعد الدكتوراه في بيركلي ويعود إلى CalTech في عام 1976. في عام 2010 ، كان زويل أستاذًا للكيمياء والفيزياء في معهد كاليفورنيا للتكنولوجيا (CalTech) ، وشغل كرسي Linus Pauling منذ عام 1990 حيث أدار مختبر العلوم الجزيئية ومركز الأبحاث متعدد التخصصات الذي تأسس في CalTech من قبل مؤسسة العلوم الوطنية (NSF) حول دراسة العمليات الجزيئية الأساسية المشاركة في الأنظمة الجزيئية المعقدة.
