Eid-al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan. On this specific day, it is forbidden to fast. Also called a 'sweet feast', desserts are honored after the morning prayer is completed. Feast of forgiveness and peace, it can last up to three days. Tradition has it that on this occasion the practitioner performs zakat (alms for the most needy) which consists of donating four times the contents of two joined hands of food.

It is an important festival of Islam that Muslims are likely to have to celebrate without being able to gather in mosques and prayer rooms, as tradition dictates. This Sunday, May 24, Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the month of Ramadan, the month of fasting.

The date of Eid al-Fitr varies each year, since the month of Ramadan is a month of the lunar calendar. . Before this feast, Muslims are invited to perform Zakât Al Fitr, alms at the end of the fast. "Zakāt El-Fir's alms, intended to validate and purify the fast, are paid to the needy before the prayer of Aīd El-Fir," notes the Grand Mosque of Paris. Its amount is set this year at 7 euros per dependent and it must be distributed to the poor before the end of Ramadan.

On the day of Eid al-Fitr, Muslim worshipers traditionally gather for common prayer. “Usually, on the occasion of Eid, children receive gifts,” says Islamic Relief.
