Greco-Roman period

From -311, the Greek dynasty of the Ptolemies is put at the head of the country. They settle in Alexandria, which they make their capital. Their manners and customs are established in the country. Only the Theban region retains its independence. Until the year 30 AD, the country preserves its independence. But the arrival of Octavian Augustus in the country will put an end to it. He beats Antoine, and the last descendant of the Ptolemies, Queen Cleopatra, commits suicide. Egypt becomes a new province of Rome, very popular for its wheat.

In 383, a new turning point shakes the country. Theodosius closes all Egyptian temples and imposes the Christian religion. In 395, Egypt is attached to the Eastern Roman Empire. This period will be called Coptic (Christians of Egypt). Ancient Egypt is gradually fading from the memory of its people. The writing of hieroglyphs is abandoned, the cult of the Egyptian gods stopped. Egypt lost without realizing one of its greatest cultural, historical, and religious riches.
