In 2016, the financial sector accounted for 16.7% of real GDP and the manufacturing sector 14.4% of real GDP according to the Bahrain Economic Development Board. Faced with competition from other GCC countries that are preparing with considerable resources for the post-oil, the Bahraini economy must however reinvent a model of growth: the authorities rely on tourism (12.3 million visitors in 2016, of which 88 % from Saudi Arabia) and on the development of logistics infrastructure in particular. Economic diversification and regional economic positioning constitute for the Kingdom the pillars of a model of balanced economic growth. Economic diversification has become since 2008, with the Bahrain's Economic Vision 2030, the major axis of the economic policy of the Kingdom. In this context, Bahrain can count on pledges from GCC countries following the events of 2011 (10 billion USD over 10 years).
