Travel stories
Highly appreciating Egypt, I write to tell you the story of my
third trip in four months, carried out during the holidays of the end of 2007.
The first time in Taba, north of the Gulf of Aqaba, in the context a last
minute tour through the internet with friends. The second, a month later, alone
in dry flight, with a bag and a guide of the backpacker. Finally this time,
with 2 bags (!!), always my guide, and suddenly, some Egyptian knowledge on the
spot ....
I left for Egypt on December 30th. I spent the New Year there, it
was very nice.
I found my guide at the Sofitel Hurghada ranch, and I went back to
the desert with the same pure blood as during my second trip, same sensations,
same landscape, it was really good. I returned a few days later, just to share
some tea with the guide, and chat in the heat, rocked by the smell of horses
.... Take the time to live what ...
An Egyptian
I also went to Luxor, always thanks to my guide of the backpacker.
The day I left, I waited for the bus at the station for 2 hours.
Not seeing him arrive, I finally found two English and one Portuguese to rent a
cab with me. We made the trip of day, crossed the desert, lived these
magnificent landscapes with a lot of emotions. We were stopped at every
checkpoint, passports, bakchiches, re-passport, re-bakchiche! Unbelievable
!!!!! Each time, as I was the only woman, brown and tanned moreover, we were
arrested and it lasted forever! I learned later that in fact we were very lucky
because it is forbidden for tourists to move without being part of a military
convoy ... .. Where the many backchiches!
Needless to say, at any time we could have been arrested and forced
to turn around. But I only knew it afterwards.
In short, arrival on Luxor, I left my fellow travelers, and I found
a hotel in the center, for 3 euros per night. This is a Franco-Egyptian couple
who runs this hotel, and immediately, when I arrived around 16h, the man
offered to take me by motorcycle to visit the temple and the museum of Luxor.
Time to put my stuff in the small room, and hop, I was on his bike, without
headphones, thoroughly in the city, it was fabulous and very exciting. I filmed
with my digital camera, the quality is not terrible but hey, we still feel the
atmosphere!
Hieroglyphics
Obviously, the visit of the temple, at night, does not need comment
... it is lived, and does not tell ...
Hieroglyphics
In the evening I went to get a "take away" in the city,
from the "check", a mixture of meat, rice, pasta, chickpeas and
spices. And above all, the white bread so good ...
I had dinner on the terrace of the hotel, terrace open to the city
on the top floor, arranged way Bedouin tents. It's good to live for 3 euros,
believe me !!! Backpackers from all walks of life discuss, drink tea and smoke
chicha with hotel owners and employees.
I really recommend this place.
A terrace
The next day I visited the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the
Queens, the Temple of Apshetsout.
I would just add that despite the beauty of the sites, it is very
difficult to get to feel the atmosphere it could prevail before in these
valleys, the flow of tourists preventing any freedom of feeling. This is
probably the reason why I do not dwell on my visits. To tell, we must feel ...
.and even if the sites of Luxor are unquestionably splendid, we hardly feel
anything, except anger at all those visitors who do not appreciate in silence!
I did not have time to visit Karnak, but I would go back.
Once again I was lucky to return to Hurghada because Emmanuel, the
hotel's wife, was greeting Swiss friends to her, and she was leaving with them
to visit Hurghada and Cairo.
On a boat
So we rented a small minibus for 5, and we crossed the desert in
the other direction, but by night this time ... it was so beautiful ... the sky
was clear, I did not count my wishes so much there had shooting stars ... .and
we were integrated into the famous military convoy, among a hundred buses, cars
and cars of all kinds .... We would have thought Paris Dakar! It was truly
unforgettable. It was like a long serpentine light for several kilometers.
Returning to Hurghada on Friday night, I enjoyed the weekend
calmly, letting me go according to my desires, between walks to Sekkala and
Dahar on the one hand, and visits to my Egyptian friends on the other.
Although, overall, Hurghada is a city overrated, concrete and ugly for our
eyes, there is a lively atmosphere night and day. This makes it possible to
forget a little that this city was built from scratch for mass tourism and
especially for these thousands of Russians, who strolls without complex thong
on the beaches or mini skirts and low-cut in the streets ... .
Then from Monday, I dived the whole week, twice a day, with the
UCPA. My dive week in "extra" (I was considered extra since I was not
part of UCPA hotel package / dives, organized from France) cost me 230 euros,
including 10 dives, meals and equipment rental. Given the professionalism of
this organization, it's worth it. And unlike my second stay where I had also
offered some dives, enjoying the visit to over thirty dolphins during one of
them, this time I FINALLY saw the one that I have been waiting for an eternity
... .the Leopard ray, majestic, and unspeakable ... now I know why I love the
sea so much ....
Finally, the weekend of my departure, I loitered again ... I took
the opportunity to "stuff" ful (mashed chickpeas, cream and spices)
and ful falafel (vegetable donuts) in small Egyptian canteens, in the sun ....
