General framework of the United Arab Emirates
Placed at a crossroads between the West and the East, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) offers the image of a strong and prosperous economy. As the second Gulf economy behind Saudi Arabia, the UAE is dominated by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (just over 60% of total GDP), which accounts for the bulk of hydrocarbon production (over 90%), while Dubai (nearly 28% of total GDP) supports its development in services (sea and air transport, tourism, hotels, retail, financial services) and industry (free zones).
4th OPEC oil producer (2.8 million barrels / day), 7th in the world reserves (98 billion barrels), 16th world gas producer (7th rank for reserves), the Federation is a country powerful, rich and dynamic, whose economy accelerates its diversification, oil now representing less than 30% of GDP.
With a population mainly composed of expatriates (just under 15% of "nationals" out of the 9 million inhabitants), the country is culturally open and tolerant.
Bilaterally, the UAE has for several years been an exceptional trading partner for our companies: France's largest market in the Middle East, the Federation is also one of our first global trade surpluses. French exports have tripled in ten years, despite a particularly competitive market.
Nearly 600 French companies are located in the UAE, a real regional "hub", to monitor many major infrastructure projects, support the marketing of their products, operate a production unit or services. Several of them have begun a positive dynamic of collaborative work, in the form of clusters under the "French Efficiency" banner, to present an integrated, complementary, innovative and relevant French offer to meet the needs of local decision-makers.
The Economic Service for the UAE, located in Abu Dhabi, has jurisdiction over the UAE's seven Emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain.
The Economic Service is involved in bilateral economic cooperation (representation of French economic interests in local administrations, institutions and bodies, dialogue with the authorities on bilateral and multilateral trade and financial issues); preparation, coordination and organization of official economic visits; monitoring of public policies in the UAE; Accompanying exporters on major projects.
The SE also hosts an Advisor / Expert from the National Institute for Industrial Property (INPI), which aims to provide technical support to French authorities and companies on the application of intellectual property standards in the Middle East. A Customs Attaché is also based in Dubai.

The Economic Service for the UAE supports and coordinates the support system for French companies, which is the French export team in the UAE: the Dubai Business Office (support for the internationalization of French companies and the attractiveness of France), Atout France, Sopexa, the CCEF (Foreign Trade Advisers of France) and the two French chambers of commerce in the UAE: the French Business Group of Abu Dhabi (FBG) and the French Business Council of Dubai ( BCF).
