The arthropod animal is an invertebrate with an external skeleton

The class of arthropods is the largest group of animals because it includes insects, a good number of invertebrate animals, including spiders, millipedes, crustaceans ...

The first of the apparent characteristics of an arthropod animal is that they are animals whose body is formed of an external skeleton from chitin, which the animal produces.

This rather flexible membrane is often covered with limestone, to become rigid and serve as protection.

The second is that they have three pairs of articulated legs and more.

Animals in the arthropod class are made up of several segments, such as centipedes, or simply a thorax that carries the legs, head, and abdomen, as in the case of the mowers.

The different systems, nervous, circulatory, reproductive ... are well formed.

Depending on the species, the development is different. For some, like insects, they pass from the egg to the larva, then, after the various metamorphoses, becomes an adult animal. For others, they proceed to moults, which allow to renew the external rigid skeleton by a new larger and softer. During the period when the carapace of the animal is more flexible, it is more vulnerable and will usually hide the time that its new external skeleton hardens.

Since the skeleton of the arthropods is external, and thus constitutes a large part of the total weight of the animal, they do not become really big. The largest arthropods are aquatic animals that benefit from the weightlessness provided by aquatic life.
