Anystidae are mites of the class of arachnids

Anystidae (Anystidae) are invertebrate animals of the order Trombidiformes which are of the class of arachnids (Arachnidae). They look like a tiny red or yellowish spider, but they are subclass of mites (Acari) that have a body that is not divided into thorax and abdomen like these.

They have an abdomen that has a shape that looks like a drop, with hair coming out here and there on it. The eight legs all seem to start from the same point under the front of the body, allowing them to turn around quickly, hence their English name of Whirligig mites.

They are animals that go through several moults before arriving from the egg to the adult stage. During the stages of their first moults, they have fewer legs, and will have eight at the age of maturity. When mature, Anystidae rarely measure more than 3 mm depending on the species.

They are found everywhere on the ground, in grass and on plants where they can catch or cling to their prey.

Tiny larvae of mites parasitize other insects, such as grasshoppers, Diptera, spiders ... by attaching themselves to harpoon and suck body fluids. They stay attached to their host without killing it, then it drops when the host is no longer enough to feed or it becomes mature enough.

Once adults, they move to the ground and foliage to look for food. They search for eggs or hunt tiny insects, such as aphids, for food.
