Road accidents
A road accident is an accident occurring on the road network between a rolling vehicle (car, motorcycle, bicycle, etc.) and any other thing or person and which causes human injury and / or property damage. Many factors contribute to collision risk such as vehicle type, speed of movement, road environment, driver experience, but also behavior and physical condition.

Causes of road accidents:
• Aggressiveness on the roads
• Alcohol
Alcohol and driving do not mix well. Even in small doses, alcohol slows reflexes and increases the risk of an accident.
• Distraction and carelessness at the wheel
Distracted driving and carelessness: an underestimated danger and responsible for one in four accidents!
• Drug addicts
The drugs are all incompatible with driving, especially if they are mixed with alcohol, drugs or other substances.
• Tired
Fatigue or drowsiness at the wheel decreases driving ability and may be the cause of an accident.
• Speed
Inadequate speed is one of the leading causes of fatal accidents in Switzerland. Unsuitable speed does not necessarily mean excessive speed, but speed unsuitable for traffic conditions.

Consequences of accidents:
We all know that road accidents are sometimes fatal, some people die and others have life-long consequences. Like the physical and / or mental handicap. But in recent years we have noticed that the number of deaths is decreasing in 2008. It has suffered a decrease of 2% compared to 2007 that is to say 4615 deaths against 4709 in 2007. We thus note that the number of deaths decreases as well as the number of injuries but the severity of the accidents increases.
Road accidents are very often responsible for disabilities such as paraplegia, quadriplegia, paralysis, amputation that make these people dependent. But there are also mental handicaps such as inconsistency in his remarks, permanent agitation, neurological damage, ...
These people can not live alone, it must depend on someone permanently.
We can also see that men are more concerned by road accidents than women, ie 29 women against 81 men per million victims, these accidents will leave them heavy handicaps for the rest of their lives. But it is the young people who are the most affected and will have the maximum health, family, economic and social consequences.

Solutions:
1. No drunk driving.
2. No risky behavior (and punishable by law) when driving: pick up the phone, read, eat, drink or smoke while driving.
3. Service your vehicle regularly. Observe the manufacturer's maintenance recommendations and pay particular attention to the condition of the tires on your vehicle (wear, inflation, etc.)
4. Do not enter the vicious circle of driving aggression. It is sometimes difficult but it is always better to ignore the aggressiveness of other drivers and refrain from any bidding, whatever the circumstances. In case of obvious abuse, you can always notify the police.
5. Respect the minimum distances of safety, especially on the motorway, by using the markings on the ground specifically provided for this purpose on the right of the road.
6. Strive to maintain a constant speed, without slowdowns or permanent accelerations. This will allow you to reduce fuel consumption.

7. Check your mirrors before driving and keep an eye on them at all times.
