KANGAROO
Physical description
The kangaroo is a marsupial that has an abdominal
pocket (also called marsupial pocket) in females. This pocket allows them to
shelter their little ones.
The animal measures between 1.10 m and 1.80 m
depending on the sex, and its tail can reach 1 meter long. The male weighs
around 85 kg while the female rarely exceeds 35 kg. These animals move with
leaps allowing them to move up to 40 km / h.
Kangaroos usually have a red-colored coat. These
breeds of kangaroos are besides the most known of all. But there are also gray
kangaroos.
His place of life
Australia is the only country where you can find
kangaroos (there are nearly 40 million!). The animal is renowned for its great
adaptability in a very high temperature environment, like the most remote areas
of the Australian bush. That said, it is found most often in wet meadows.
His diet
To feed, the kangaroo grazes the grass. Some even eat
branches and barks. But the animal also likes fruits and insects.
His reproduction
Males mature at 2 years of age. On their side, the
females are able to procreate between 12 and 22 months. Management lasts around
35 days. Once born, the baby kangaroo weighing 1 g and measuring between 2 and
3 cm, will be incubated between 235 and 250 days in the pocket marsupiale his
mother. This abdominal pouch contains four teats to feed small kangaroos that
are born as small embryos.
His life expectancy
A kangaroo can live between 12 and 25 years old.
The cry of the kangaroo
This animal does not have a particular cry but he can
growl, cough or blow like a cat. The females call their children by slamming
their tongue. But the kangaroo also knows how to communicate by tapping his
foot.
Particular signs
The kangaroo leans on his tail to rest. In addition,
he can stay 2 to 3 weeks without drinking.
For an unknown reason, young kangaroos give birth to
females, while as they age, they will give birth to males.
