Some pleasures accompany and prolong happiness

The way to epicurean happiness is through a limitation of desires. Epicurus prescribes in fact to distinguish the different types of desires, and to satisfy only the natural and necessary desires. But his conception of happiness does not exclude pleasure.

Happiness is a state of pleasure

The philosopher Aristotle also considers that the sovereign good must constitute the goal of all human existence. Now, for Aristotle, since the sovereign good consists in the perfection of a thing, and human excellence is to live a virtuous life, Man will attain happiness as soon as he lives a life according to virtue.

Aristotle defends a finalist conception of the world: everything in the universe has an end, that is, a goal.

For example, the goal of medicine is health; for military strategy, the purpose of his activity is victory.

It is therefore a question of wondering what constitutes the goal of the existence of Man. Aristotle therefore wonders if there is not one thing which is the last end of all our acts, which is not "desirable for another thing" but only in itself. For human beings, the only end of this kind is happiness: even honor, pleasure or intelligence are means for happiness.
