History of the Sultanate of Oman
History of the Sultanate of Oman
The story of Oman is that of heroism, courage, wisdom, love of the homeland and loyalty to it. All this created the richness of Omani civilization and helped to build the modern Sultanate of Oman.

The strategic position of the country has played a large role in the many regional aims and conflicts that have agitated the country, the territory of the Sultanate being bathed by the waters of the Arabian Sea, the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman. Saudi. The country also controls the Strait of Hormuz, considered one of the vital arteries of the region, since it links the Gulf of Arabia to the Arabian Sea and is a gateway for all ships coming from the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea.

The region of Al Wateeh, Muscat governorate is considered one of the first inhabited sites, recent discoveries have revealed the existence of humans since the Paleolithic, that is to say for more than ten thousand years.

The Babylonians and Assyrians set up settlement settlements in Oman to control the trade route from Asia to the shores of the Mediterranean.

During the expansion of Islam, Mazin bin Ghaduba was the first in Oman to embrace the new religion and travel to Medina to meet the Messenger of God - that God's prayer and salvation accompany him. . On his return, was erected the mosque Al Midmar which was the first of the country and which still exists. It is located in the district of Sama'il. All this was the prelude to the conversion of the two Oman kings of the time: Jaïfar and Abd, son of Al Jalandi, animated by faith and pure conviction, after the Prophet - that the prayer of God and the hello accompany him - send them a letter. Some hadiths relate this statement of the Prophet - may God's prayer and salvation accompany him -: "May God have mercy on the people of Al Ghubaira (that is, Oman), who have believed in me without m 'have seen. In one of his sermons addressed to the inhabitants of Oman, our Lord Abu Bakr the Truthful, successor (caliph) of the Messenger of God declared: "People of Oman! You have become Muslims of your own free will, without the foot of the Prophet or the hoof of his horse having to tread your soil. You have not apostatized, as other Arabs have done. You have never incited division or dispersion. May God fill you with His blessings! "

The election of the first Imam Ibn Mas'ud in 751 of the Christian era inaugurated, in Oman, the regime of the Imam which lasted for nearly four decades, until 1154. The mid-fifteenth century of Christian era witnessed several unsuccessful attempts to restore the Imamate to Oman.

During the period from 1498 to 1507, the Portuguese tried to take control of the country. But thanks to the heroic resistance of the brave sons of Oman the Portuguese were defeated. In 1624, Nasir bin Murshid was elected imam. The maritime vocation of Oman favored the creation of a fleet which occupied a considerable place on the regional level, arousing the fury of the Portuguese still under the blow of their crushing defeat.

Fierce naval battles opposed the Omani fleet to that of the Portuguese based in India after the liberation of Oman. After a terrible battle, the Omanis had the upper hand over the enemy fleet.

In 1698, Oman annexed to his expanding empire, several coastal cities of East Africa, from Mumbasa to Kilwa, Zanzibar, Bimba and Bata. Mozambique remained under Portuguese control until the 20th century.

Oman was also faced with many Persian invasion attempts, but again the fierce resistance of the Omanis made it possible for the occupier to be forced out of their territory after they had written pages of bravery and accomplished acts of heroism for the defense of their country. The decisive victory was won by Ahmed Sa'id Al Busa'idi who, after inflicting a severe defeat on the Persians, was elected imam.
At the beginning of 1970, a new dawn broke, that of the modern renaissance of the Sultanate, ushering in an era of prosperity under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Sa'id, may God keep it
