Top animal species gone because of men, we are champions

If you drag a little on the Internet you will see every 3 months an article about the disappearance of the cougar. As we found it odd that the cougar goes out definitively several times in a row, we went to see a little species disappeared, and we realized, mega-surprise, that the man was often not for nothing: small selection of animals that should never have crossed our path, poor little apples.

1. The Tarpan

The Tarpan was a small European wild horse considered as the ancestor potential of many current breeds. The last specimen died in captivity in Russia in 1909 and there is only one photo (not quite true) of the animal, dated 1884. Hunted by men since antiquity for its flesh and for dressage, it eventually went out.

2. Thylacine

Widely widespread in Australia, this marsupial mammal, the size of a wolf and often called a Tasmanian Wolf or Tiger, is now extinct, even if possible traces of life were discovered in 2013. They would have survived in Tasmania the 30's but his reputation as a chicken thief and intensive hunting (with state premium for each slaughtered animal) contributed to his demise.

3. The Quagga

The Quagga was a subspecies of zebra from South Africa. The last wild specimen was slaughtered in 1878 and the species died out definitively in 1883 with the specimen of the zoo of Amsterdam. Its extinction is due, once is not customary, to the intensive hunting practiced by the Dutch settlers and the Afrikaners.

4. The Rougette

The Rougette was a kind of bat bat living in Reunion Island and Mauritius. It probably would have disappeared in the 19th century because of the intensive deforestation of its habitat by humans.

5. The dimorphic Huia

Endemic to New Zealand, this bird species was the only one to show sexual dimorphism at the beak, the female was long and the male was shorter. It must have been exciting and very cute, but they were zigzzling like dirty in the early twentieth century.

6. The California Grizzly

You must have already seen it since it is the emblem of California, but you do not risk crossing it there since the last specimen was shot in 1922. Very large and majestic, it had the dirty mania of to eat the cattle of the colonists freshly landed which they did not like masses. It took them barely 75 years to eliminate them to the last.

7. The aurochs

Ancestor of the current breeds of domestic cattle, the aurochs was the victim of hunting and excessive domestication which apparently did not succeed. In the thirteenth century the species no longer existed in Eastern Europe and in the seventeenth century it had completely disappeared.

8. The Lion of the Atlas

The lion with the sweet name of Lion of the Atlas or Lion of barbarism was present throughout all of North Africa, mainly in Morocco and Algeria. It is estimated that the last specimens died out in the 60s, driven out of their territories as the man settled and developed his cities.

9. The Northern Bubble

The Bubal Antelope was present in the northern Sahara, but also in Senegal and Ethiopia. The conquest of Algeria by France in the nineteenth century was almost fatal, the army decimating entire herds. Then the hunters took care of the rest: the last known flock (only 15 animals) was sighted in 1917 before being shot by a hunter. Some animals have survived a few more years but today the Bubai has disappeared.

10. The Dodo

Probably the best known of extinct animals, the Dodo is the bird who did not have a bowl: the men hunted him (when he was not good), destroyed his natural habitat by smashing the forest As if that were not enough, the first men to arrive in Mauritius brought with them dogs, cats, rats and crab-eating macaques who killed and puffed the eggs. It is estimated that in 1681 there were no more on Earth.
