Preambles of the Moroccan wedding
Moroccan wedding: the days before
Moroccan wedding process: D-day
Moroccan marriage is part of the Muslim tradition. The stages of this festive event are numerous, and some of them begin before D-Day.
Here is a small overview of the course of a Moroccan wedding.
Preambles of the Moroccan wedding
It is well before the day of the Moroccan wedding celebration that we prepare, namely from the khetba. This is how we call the engagement, the first phase of a Moroccan marriage during which the parents of the young man ask the hand of the young girl to her parents.
It is only when the two parties are in full agreement that preparations for the wedding begin. The following are then planned:
The al kaghet, an intimate ceremony that brings together the future spouses and their respective close relatives: it is during this stage that the future marriage is formalized and that the marriage certificate is sealed. For this, we call on an adoul responsible for drafting the marriage certificate.
The date of the wedding.
Dowry.
The place.
The decoration.
The list of the different service providers that will be called upon, such as the halal caterer, the orchestra, etc.
The gifts that will be offered to the newlyweds.
The budget.
Good to know: you also need to take time to decide on all the toilets that will be worn on the Moroccan wedding day by the bride. For this, we use a negafa.
Moroccan wedding: the days before
The few days before the Moroccan wedding are mainly a women's affair. It is during this stage shared with the women of the young bride's family that the future bride is purified.
During these few days, we proceed:
to a session in the hammam so that all the women take a milk bath under the ululations and songs;
the henna ritual: a tradition calling for prosperity and which implies that the bride wears a green outfit on that day as well as the presence of a nekacha responsible for adorning the feet and hands of the bride with tattoos with henna;
the hdiyya: a festive meal during which gifts are offered to the future bride.
Good to know: Most of the guests also get a tattoo, a symbol of happiness and prosperity.
Moroccan wedding process: D-day
Wedding day :
The young bride surrounds herself with the women of her family and her friends to go to a beauty salon in which a negafa takes care of her make-up, her hairstyle and her dressing.
Then in the evening, the festivities can begin. Thus the oriental orchestra settles on the place of the festival. The waiters place drinks, dried fruits and snacks on the tables.
The guests introduce themselves to the wedding hall. The bride, beautifully decked out in an immaculate white outfit and a choker tiara, makes her entrance two to three hours after the guests. She walks through the wedding hall before going to join her bride. The couple is then installed on a throne.
The wedding meal is then served, generally consisting of a pastilla, a dish of consistency such as couscous or a tagine for example, a dessert and a platter with a rich assortment of fruits.
Throughout the night, the young bride will change her outfit as well as her jewelry set. To do this, she is assisted by four women whose mission is to help this Princess of the Thousand and One Nights get dressed. In the early morning, the bride's white outfit is made available to the young girls who take it in turns to wear it.
