A day at Bouznika beach

 

Bouznika beach, 10:30 am, it was impossible on this Saturday day to find a place in the parking lot. The USFP convention was in full swing. A little further, the beach. It was hot and the few breezes that blew in spurts couldn't soften the rays of the sun that already announced a torrid day.

The first steps on the fine sand at the beginning of summer almost gave chills. A few parasols dotted here and there and the first summer visitors of that day arrive successively in clusters. The only grocer in the area was beset by a horde of people looking for refreshing drinks and those little snacks to nibble on later. On the wet sand, not far from the busiest places, young people are fighting over a ball.

Others joined them and a soccer tournament on the sand, beach soccer for connoisseurs, was quickly improvised. Still others, in most cases as a couple, throw a tennis ball at each other. Surely young people who had just passed their baccalaureate and found in this occupation a way to deceive their anxiety in this period of waiting for results. A small child of barely 10 years old comes to offer parasols for rent for the modest sum of 20 DH a day. As the sun approaches the zenith, other summer visitors arrive, settle down and begin to take off their clothes.

The call of the sea is becoming more and more pressing. The clear, transparent and particularly calm water becomes irresistible. The first comers have already taken a dip, some even several, and are starting their first natural tanning session of the year. Hundreds of square meters of skin are thus exposed to the rays of the sun.

The coppery or carrotine complexion is starting to become an obsession. Especially among the young ladies strutting around in their two-pieces just bought from a famous franchise on Boulevard El Massira for a fortune. "A beautiful day, isn't it. Yesterday again, I was not thinking of a trip to the beach. I had planned a family visit, to go visit my aunt in Rabat”, announces with a broad smile on her mouth, Nadia, a young executive in a private company in Casablanca. She came as a group with her brother, sister-in-law and friends, she said. Unlike this couple of French regulars who came as a family, with their two children. “For years, Bouznika has been a must for us who often spend our family summer holidays in Morocco,” says the mother, who is rather amused by a spectacle that is taking shape a little further on. Eight young people, four boys and four girls, who have traveled from Marrakech, are celebrating, oblivious to the rest of the world around them and the people watching them with curious eyes. Somersaults in the water, on the sand, collective singing in a choir... In short, a good-natured atmosphere characteristic of the inhabitants of the ocher city. Next to it, a young cut remains imperturbable in front of all this merry-go-round. In search of a moment of solitude and intimacy, the couple seems disconnected from the world around them and from time to time exchanges a few discreet kisses on the sly.

As a family, a group of friends or a couple, everyone looking for a moment of pleasure, the beach is buzzing and bubbling with energy and life. At midday, it was almost impossible to find a free spot on the golden sands of this famous bay that goes beyond borders.

In the water, a few young people aboard jet-skis come to disturb the swimming from time to time. A way to assert themselves, but above all to show off their wealth.

Very far from the deafening roar of the engine accompanied by the suffocating smell of burnt fuel, small waves break on the small legs of a toddler amused by the sight of a young man bathing with his dog. If for some this day at the beach is synonymous with entertainment and moments of relaxation, for others it is different. A multitude of activities are developing on and around the beaches. Sale of nuggets, ice cream, sweets, cold drinks, in short a whole trade linked to the beaches, activities often practiced by children.
