For a long time, Libya was considered an immense desert country and remained little frequented by tourists. Climate

In the North, on the Mediterranean coasts, the climate is hot and dry in summer, rainy in winter. In the interior of the country, temperatures are difficult to tolerate between April and October.

Geography

Open to the north on the Mediterranean Sea, Libya is bordered by Tunisia and Algeria to the west, Niger and Chad to the south, Sudan and Egypt to the east. The country is flat and almost entirely desert. The population is concentrated along the coast, to the west in Tripolitania, to the east in Cyrenaica, regions separated by a long coastal strip that is also quasi-desert. Inward, there are many oases.

Most of the territory is covered by the Sahara. The most beautiful desert region of Libya is the Fezzan, in the south-west of the country, famous for its oases, rock carvings of the prehistoric era and its dune seas. Another unavoidable region: the maquis of Tripolitania, where the capital, Tripoli, is located, as well as the remains of the ancient cities of Leptis Magna and Subratah.
