Avicenna

Ibn Sina

In Europe, it is called Avicenna but its real name is Abu Ali Husayn ibn Abd Allah ibn Sina. He was born in 980 in Afshanah near Bukhara in Uzbekistan. He died in 1037 in Hamadan, Iran. His father was a senior administration official.

His intellectual formation:

He is a real hakim. He studied the Koran, medicine, calculus, Euclid's geometry, astronomy, science, philosophy ...

At 14, his abilities surpass those of his teachers.

One of the greatest doctors in the Middle Ages

He is famous as an Arab doctor. At the age of 18, he became the doctor of the emir at the court of Bukhara.

The Canon of Avicenna

The Avicenna Cannon is a book that contains definitions of diseases and their symptoms as well as effective medications. He begins his description of diseases by the head, then from the body to the foot. This well-known book was studied by the "future doctors" of Europe until the 17th century. Avicenna was therefore one of the greatest doctors of the Middle Ages.
