Camouflage is a means of concealing animals
Camouflage is a very common way for animals
to hide from the sight of predators hunting them. In some animals, like the
chameleon, for example, it is even something that they can modify to better
blend into their environment.
Camouflage only deceives the hunter's eye,
or prey, by mimicking the colors, patterns or shapes of what surrounds the
animal that uses it, and thus become more difficult to detect.
The eye is an excellent organ, but
depending on the species of animal, some do not see the colors, or have a more
limited vision. However, a movement is very quickly detected by the vast
majority of animals.
This is why it is often enough to use a
color similar to those around him, and not to move, to become more difficult to
find. This is one of the hunting techniques used by hunters, for hunting ducks,
for example.
The bright colors, or that stand out much
in relation to the environment of the animal, are often detected quickly, if
the predator perceives the colors. Brightly colored animals often mean to
predators that they are poisonous, like the strawberry frog for example.
It often happens that while walking to
photograph animals, I miss walking on a frog, or a grasshopper who jumps at the
last moment. They stay really still until the very last moment before jumping,
even after I have looked to avoid crashing by mistake.
The color camouflage of a grasshopper
The color similar to the rocks of this
grasshopper serves as camouflage
The patterns are also very effective for
camouflaging and subjugating the eye. To observe the bark of the trees, I
noticed a stain, which was actually a big moth. The pattern of spots on its
wings is very similar to the pattern of the bark of the trees on which it will
land. If you combine the same colors and patterns, the camouflage becomes even
more effective.
The reasons are camouflage to this

The motive of this moth makes it more
difficult to detect
The shape of the animal is another means of
camouflage, which also serves to deceive the vigilance of predators by copying
the form of innocuous objects. Some species have a shape that looks like a
spine or a plant bud, the stick is an insect that looks like a twig, and some
praying mantises have a body that looks like a leaf to better hide itself.
But camouflage is not only a defense
against predators, but also a way for predators to catch prey that have not
seen them. Many insects, such as the crab spider, the stink bug ... will be
placed on a flower of similar color to hers, then, remain motionless and wait
for a flyer to pass to capture it.
Camouflage is therefore useful to all wild
animals, finally, to those who have it, whether to hunt or hide. When an animal
really can not camouflage itself, like an elephant or a hippopotamus ... it is
equipped otherwise to defend well or hunt, because its species has survived the
natural selection.
