The deer is a herbivorous ruminant animal
The Deer is a ruminant animal that is part of the
herbivorous mammals. The young deer has no wood, they will appear in its first
year in the form of two branches on each side of his head.
The woods are covered with "velvet" which
is full of blood vessels. This plume is very sensitive, so be careful not to
hit the trees and he takes precautions when walking in the forest. At the end
of August this "velvet" tears and falls. That's why he rubs his woods
on everything around him to get rid of it faster.
In February, his plume will fall and push another
stronger and stronger. Until his fourth year this process will be renewed and
he will keep this last attribute until his death. It is therefore wrong to say
that one can know the age of a deer by counting its ramifications.
From the age of 14 the stag has become old and its
woods more fragile, it is then that they break at the ends.
The most famous species in North America are
white-tailed deer and mule deer. A Eurasian species has been introduced in
British Columbia. He is called the deer.

Fall is the season of love for the deer. Old males
watch over their herd of females. They watch night and day to keep any male
from approaching his beautiful, who sometimes count to the number of 30. The
fighting between males are noisy because of the woods that clash. They are
rarely mortal unless the woods intermingle. Both belligerents then die of
exhaustion.

The fertilization period of the female is very
short, half a day. This period is very demanding for males, monitoring, mating
and fighting prevent them from eating and they can lose 20 kg during this
period of time. The young males benefit from the fact that the older ones are
exhausted to have their chance of reproduction.
Winter is spent trying to survive by all means. All
that remains is bark and some plants for all sharing. Some forest workers lay
food to help deer overwinter. The deer live in the undergrowth and they come
back every year to the same mating place even if it is a very long drive.
After a gestation of 8 1/2 months, the females will
give birth in June. The fawn is already standing 1/2 hour after birth. He will
remain alone and immobile during the first days, the mother will return only to
feed him. Do not go near him, because the mother will smell the human smell and
abandon her baby. As soon as he is strong enough on his feet he will join the
horde with his mother.
The male is called a deer, the female a doe.
The lifespan of the deer is up to 25 years but few
of them are older than 15 or 16 years.
